Scaleform GFx is a light-weight high-performance rich media user interface (UI) and vector graphics engine, designed specifically for Console and
PC game developers. GFx combines the scalability and development ease of proven visual authoring tools, such as the Adobe Flash® Studio, with the
latest hardware graphics acceleration that cutting-edge game developers demand.
|
Using Scaleform GFx, companies can change from a programmer-centric static UI development environment to an artist-driven dynamic UI and animated
texture production pipeline!
The heart and soul of the Scaleform GFx rich media engine is the Scaleform VGx hardware-accelerated vector graphics technology, which tessellates
vector graphic shapes into triangles that modern 3D video cards can render. By converting the data into triangles, Scaleform VGx can output vector
graphics many times faster than traditional software rasterizers, allowing it to be used within high-performance multimedia environments.

Scalability
Vector graphics can scale to any size without degrading in quality, which enables complete resolution independence. GFx vector graphics
are hardware accelerated and anti-aliased using a revolutionary new technique, Triangle-based tessellation and Edge AA, which does not
rely on FSAA or complex pixel shaders.
|
Cross Platform
Scaleform GFx is fully compatible with a wide range of systems and game engines for true cross-platform UI development. To date, the following
systems have been supported: Windows®, Linux®, MacOS®, QNX®, Xbox 360®, "PSP®(PlayStation® Portable)", "PLAYSTATION®2" (PS2™), "PLAYSTATION®3" (PS3™),
Wii™, and several embedded ARM devices. GFx is also integrated with most of the leading game engines such as Unreal® Engine 3
and Gamebryo™.
|
ActionScript™
Extensive Flash ActionScript (AS) 2.0 support allows developers to code everything from intelligent UI behaviors to complex mini-games. With over a million Flash
developers in the world, GFx users can leverage a large and growing AS knowledge base.
|
Text System
Multi-line rich edit textbox with ActionScript TextField and TextFormat APIs, horizontal and vertical scrolling, formatted HTML parsing
(colors, fonts, margins, alignment, embedded images, hyperlinks), and text field Flash 8 filter effects (soft shadow, blur, glow).
|
Font System
Efficient font compression for up to 5x memory savings, convenient font sharing, dynamic glyph caching for efficient Asian font output,
Win32 system font support, FreeType font wrapper, improved glyph packing and high-quality scalable rendering.
|
Asian IME
Full Chinese, Japanese, and Korean multi-lingual text input on most PC and Console systems. Scaleform IME makes it seamless to support in-game chat
in Asian languages, which is especially important for MMO games.
|
Multi-Threading
Play files on separate threads for uninterrupted UI, asynchronous "progressive" file streaming starts playing movie while loading.
|
Scale9Grid
Vector and image based Flash scale9Grid, including special seamless image and transformation compatibility. Using scale9Grid, developers
can make resizable UI components such as windows, panels, or buttons.
|
In-Game Lobby
